Volunteer

At UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families volunteers play an integral role.

There are many ways in which volunteers can be involved.  A few examples include assisting annually at our Burnside Reunion, helping to tutor children after school on a weekly basis and supporting staff at programs. The story below provides just one example of how a volunteer can make a difference.

More volunteers are always needed. Our volunteers work within our many locations throughout NSW doing a variety of roles during hours that suit the volunteer and the program. There are many ways volunteers can contribute to our programs.

We view volunteering as a partnership. In return for your work, UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families provides relevant training, ongoing support and an in-depth induction. Our volunteers can expect to acquire new skills, meet new people and have many experiences which can prove rewarding and stimulating.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer at one of our programs please contact Human Resources (02) 9768 6866.

Corporate citizenship supports new website

While IBM, the most profitable IT employer in the world, and leading child and welfare agency UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families dont appear to have much in common, the two organisations last year formed a partnership to develop the new UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families website, launched in August 2009.

When UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families Service Group was created in 2006, UnitingCare Unifam and UnitingCare Burnside were maintained as separate brands with their own websites and annual reports for example. Other "brands" under the Service Group umbrella also have websites to address the needs of their particular audiences. However, it became clear the Service Group needed its own web presence.

To undertake this project, UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families were able to call on Martha Raupp, a Communications and Business Consultant and IBM employee. Martha, supported by IBM's On Demand Community program, was given time out of normal duties and since June 2008, worked with the Service Group on the WEBolution - new website and intranet upgrade project.

IBM launched its On Demand Community in November 2003, to support employees and retirees whose volunteer work enriches the communities where they live and work. The global program builds on a long tradition of community engagement by IBMers worldwide, drawing on strengths in innovation, expertise, reliability and trust. UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families would like to thank and acknowledge IBM for their assistance with this project.
