The plan’s focus is to strengthen recruitment and retention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, including cultural awareness training for all of our staff.
Through the strategy we have recruited our own Indigenous Employment Officer who is responsible for implementing the action plan across the Service Group. This is a full-time 12 month position, fully funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. Our target is to have an additional 45 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff by the end of the 12 months, contributing to UnitingCare NSW.ACT’s target of a 2% increase.
